Computer Science Education Week (CS Ed Week) is quickly approaching! This year,
December 8 - 14 is devoted to gaining more attention among all age students about coding and programming. You can visit code.org for lots of inspiration about careers in the digital world. There are plenty of ways you can get involved in CS Ed Week!
- Create a diversity video: CSTA (Computer Science Teachers of America) is always looking toward students to create promotional materials. Each year they hold a contest for The Faces of Computing. This year, students are invited to make a 1 - 3 minute promotional video demonstrating the diverse people who know and enjoy coding. Use this link for more details.
- Coding at Longbranch: This year, our AP Computer Science classes will be taking coding to the Elementary School! 4th and 5th grade classes will get to experience coding and the joy of making the computer work for you.
- You Own Hour of Code Outreach: Know someone who would be a fabulous coder? Get them to complete an Hour of Code! Plenty of websites offer tutorials, or you can design your own!
Governor's Scholar for Entrepreneurs:
"GSE is a residential summer program where creative, free-thinking teens are empowered to share and develop their ideas for innovative products and services in an exploratory learning environment." Applications are now available for students interested in attending GSE the summer of 2015. Students must be in grades 9 - 11 the current school year. Welcome to the first year of programming and Computer Science here at Cooper! I am excited to bring this 21st century skill to you, the students. You will be challenged, but I will ensure you meet with overwhelming success.
While most of our time will focus on how the computer works, we will take time to discuss the relevance of Computer Science careers and the future of the field. You can use the In The News tab to keep up with the current events pertaining to career and college readiness.
